Dishwashers...

Did you know it costs approximately $1 every time you run a load of dishes? (Electric, Hot Water and Detergent.) Keep that in mind next time you are tempted to run a half-empty dishwasher! If you only wash full loads, the savings will surprise you.

Other ways to cut the costs of running a load include using "energy-saving" or "short-wash" features. You can use this feature for most day-to-day washing needs as in most cases it works just as well. You also save considerable energy by using the "air-dry" feature instead of the "heated-dry" feature. This change alone can cut your energy use per load up to 50%.

If you are in the market for a new dishwasher, look for an energy star model. Even though it could cost you a little more up front, your savings in a year could be substantial. Did you know that buying some energy star appliances can earn you a decent size rebate from your electric utility company? Check with your local electric company to see what they offer.
