Shop alone...

I've said it before and I'll say it again. A fast way to save major money when grocery shopping is to LEAVE THE FAMILY AT HOME!!!!

The more people you take shopping with you, the more likely you are to come home with extra items you weren't planning on buying. You know... the items the kids toss in the cart when you aren't looking, or the ones they beg to try when you're just too tired to say no. Or how about the items hubby wants that you would feel guilty saying no to?

Shopping alone helps you keep a firm grip on your budget while getting some much needed, peaceful, YOU time... it's a win-win situation! :)

Plus it is so much more peaceful. Shopped alone tonight. It was great!

Easy enough if you're not a single parent family...

I totally agree -- I go every Sat. morning to Sam's at 7am all by myself and then onto the rest of my other grocery shopping. However, I unfortunately have to take my girls w/me when I do my coupon shopping - but I am VERY disciplined and only get what's on my print out from Grocery Smarts! They know they don't get anything but what I'm buying, but usually having them help grab the countless boxes of cereal and stuff to put in the cart helps w/that!

I agree, I save more because I am less stressed and can watch to make sure that my coupons and sale prices ring up correctly. For the Single moms/dads look for a friend you can trade off with.

Chrissie, Kristen had my thought exactly... do you have a good friend that would be willing to watch your kids while you shop in exchange for you watching hers for something she would like to do?

Mom@BIH, That is super that you have taught your kids so well. When my kids were little I taught them what the sale signs looked like in each store and they didn't even ask if there wasn't a sign on it. (Most of the time unless it was a super sale we didn't get it even if there was a sign on it.) It's actually good for kids to hear no sometimes. :)

I ususally go alone, but I have one child who manages to sweet talk his way into going with me on occassion :) He is 4.

He was asking one day if we were buying other things that he saw. I continued to tell him that I was only buying what was on my list.

Suddenly, he saw a cookie display right by the eggs. He said, "Look, mom, cookies! I KNOW those aren't on the list!"
